Montford: The Chickasaw Rancher [Movie review]

We finally watched the new Chickasaw Nation movie, Montford: The Chickasaw Rancher. After years of keeping track of the post-production phase and wide availability, it didn't disappoint!

Things we liked most about the film:

1. Based on a true Chickasaw story.

2. Historically and culturally accurate.

3. Montford's integrity and faith in the forefront.

4. Clean for the whole family.

5. Well casted and great action sequences.

6. Seeing familiar faces of people we know in the Chickasaw and Choctaws Nations ;-)

7. Native-produced film.

8. That it was based on a book.

Something to keep in mind when watching it: This isn't a huge Hollywood budget film, so thankfully, it doesn't contain all the Hollywood influence that, by and large, has gotten American Indians wrong for decades, even in recent years. This is a story you can sit back and enjoy, knowing it's told from the perspective of Chickasaws themselves.

We've been looking forward to watching this movie for years, so I haven't read the book version yet, but I plan to. I didn't want reading it beforehand to spoil the movie plot after waiting so long to see it!

Here's the book version:

We hope you and your family have a chance to watch Montford: The Chickasaw Rancher soon.
